Before
When
Mike first graduated from dental school his definition of success
was about making money and his standing in the dental community.
Over time, however, that definition had changed. The long hours,
the lack of life balance, (now with a young child), and the stresses
that built up working in dentistry left him feeling drained and
with an empty feeling in his soul. He needed to change things not
only for himself, but also for his family. The most crucial step
he took was to seek help in clarifying his issues and obtaining
unbiased insight into his situation. And just as significant, he
said he had to let go of personal pride.
During
While working through the Career Clarity Program (CCP), Mike not
only discovered insights about his work styles and preferences but
he also discovered something “bigger” for himself.
“A change in my attitude and perspective how I look
at my situation or circumstance would give me greater peace. I
think this would help in other areas of my life, not just work.
I need to know who I am, accept it, and rest in that. I believe
then I could find what my true passions are.”
Our CCP sessions allowed Mike to ponder questions he had never
done so before. Expectations and “shoulds” in his career
choice stood out and these no longer felt authentic for him. We
focused on what was important to him now. Life values play a large
part in leading him to his new career path.
After
“I
have more direction, focus, and peace. I am actively working on
the best possible positive intentions for each of my choices each
and every minute of the day. That is the "hard" work
of life.” As it relates to a career change: “Take
your time. Explore and ask yourself the hard questions, even though
every fiber in your soul screams for change. The process may take
longer than you think, but do not get discouraged. Balance that
with taking active steps to the "next" answer or place.”
Mike has an expanded view of what is now possible and just as important,
what he needs to do to take responsibility for his choices. After
research and in-depth interviews he has decided to go back to school
and become a teacher. He completed all the required entrance exams,
passed them with flying colors and will begin taking classes.
He is on his way to fulfill his evolving definition of “success”.
"Carol creates an
environment through her coaching that allows me to explore
myself to be a better businessman, husband, father and friend.
I find her insightful, intelligent, supportive and trustworthy."
"Going through the Career Clarity Program with Carol has
been such a joy and an eye-opening experience. She understands
that my career is not in its own little compartment, rather
it's intwined with my whole being. This process has revealed
so much more than what career best fits me. It's given me a
clearer sense of who I am and who I'm striving to become. Thank
you for your refreshingly positive perspective and support!"
"Working with Carol was probably
the best thing that happened to me in a long time. She made
me think clearly about a lot of things and I began to realize
how much I could do if I paid attention to my inner self.
She asked me the most honest questions and made me think really
hard. She brought me back on track for the yoga certification,
otherwise I may never have gone back. Carol is a great listener,
but she just doesn't listen. She also challenges us to think
more deeply about a situation and write up the pros and cons,
which was a wonderful thing."
My work career
began with companies in the Silicon Valley, (Bay Area, California)
but it is my role of being a parent that has led me to my work
as a coach. At an early stage of motherhood, I began
anticipating "empty nest" and I wanted to be proactive about how
best I would prepare for it. So in the year 2000 I began volunteer
positions. I trained to be a hospice volunteer and it was my time
spent with patients that had such a profound effect on me. The
experience was the catalyst that helped define the perspective
I value today: "I will live my life with no regrets." So with
that focus in mind, I chose life coaching as my own way to live
fully and make what I felt would be a positive difference in the
world.
I feel most joy when I am relating with
others and coaching allows me this privilege. Busy and
demanding lifestyles have left little time for individuals to
feel connected in their personal and/or professional lives and
relationships. There's little time to evaluate the level and quality
of one's life and we're left wondering what positioned us for
that kind of lifestyle. It truly excites me to be a part in helping
an individual reconnect with themselves in order to find their
answers to living a more fulfilling life. Creating and receiving
"Aha" moments are priceless.
CCP allows the client to do a review
of your entire life, both in career and personal assessments.
It provides a structure and format to invest time in yourself
to find your own answers. (And trust me, the answers are there!)
Finding an occupation that will fulfill most or all of your needs
and desires is ideal. Discovering key factors is what CCP helps
you extract in a very organized and well-thought-out manner. It
can be done step by step in a linear fashion, but can also be
used and adapted to fit your particular style and needs.
Confidence,
direction, hope and a new starting place.
For local clients
I leave it up to them if they want to meet in person or over the
phone. Otherwise, my coaching is over the phone and via
emails.
